Roxborough Park, Colorado Poster
After moving to the area and being proud to live there, I noticed the Roxborough area had not provided a way to show their pride except in the form of photographs. I created this poster and had a limited run of prints made to sell at local shops and art events. It has been developed as part of my Colorado Vintage Travel Poster series. Created in Adobe Illustrator, I am able to enlarge and reduce the illustration without loss of quality. I call this the “travel poster” look which is a simplistic graphic illustration style but with more gradations than the old world travel posters from the 1930’s and 40’s. The process: I first create rough sketches. Then I tighten up each part as a pencil sketch and scan the drawing into the computer. I then use this scan as an underlay importing it into Adobe Illustrator. Each part of the image is created as a shape and eventually I fill the shapes in with color. After the color palette is established, I then create simple gradations to allow the image to have some depth. Roxborougn Park is a residential community located in the southwest area of Littleton, Colorado, in Douglas County and is set within spectacular red rock formations at the base of Pike National Forest. The neighborhood surrounds one of the most scenic golf courses in Colorado, Arrowhead Golf Club. The geological red rock formations located here are more than 1 billion years old. This area easily blends together with the mountains and plains to form a unique climate for numerous species of wildlife and plant life. Roxborough State Park, next door to the neighborhood, offers local residents and visitors a network of hiking and biking trails, cross-country skiing, and sightseeing. The visitor’s center has many educational programs for Colorado geology, wildlife, and history.
