This poster has been developed as part of my Colorado Vintage Travel Poster series. I created this image utilizing some pieces from previous posters. The rock formations came from the previously created Roxborough Park Poster. The golfer was created back in the mid 1990’s while I was working for a promotions agency. The golf course was recreated from a previous piece I did for a father’s day promotion. Created in Adobe Illustrator, I am able to enlarge and reduce the illustration without loss of quality. I call this the “travel poster” look which is a simplistic graphic illustration style but with more gradations than the old world travel posters from the 1930’s and 40’s. The process: I first create rough sketches. Then I tighten up each part as a pencil sketch and scan the drawing into the computer. I then use this scan as an underlay importing it into Adobe Illustrator. Each part of the image is created as a shape and eventually I fill the shapes in with color. After the color palette is established, I then create simple gradations to allow the image to have some depth. This piece has been printed as a giclee on watercolor paper.
Arrowhead Golf Club’s par-70, 6,636-yard championship golf course was crafted by iconic designers Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Robert Trent Jones, Jr. to blend seamlessly with its breathtaking natural setting in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Ancient red sandstone rock formations frame gently rolling hills and manicured emerald greens, with a multitude of elevation changes, unique bunkering and remarkable water features creating both strategic diversity and a beautiful backdrop for golf.
Adding to the allure, golfers share the course with an abundance of wildlife species, including deer, elk and foxes. While challenging for scratch golfers, the course offers multiple tees on each hole, enabling golfers of all ages and abilities an opportunity to enjoy this one-of-a-kind Colorado golf gem.
Arrowhead is one of the top 10 most-photographed golf courses in the world, has been voted the #1 public golf course in the Denver area, as well as one of America’s “Top 75 Public Courses” by Golf Digest.
